- Wander around this 17th century former abode of the merchant Thomas Gladstone wonderfully restored by the National Trust for Scotland. Soak up the atmosphere amongst open fireplaces, remarkable painted ceilings and period furnishings. A reconstructed shop booth displays replicas of 17th century goods. As you would expect from the Trust, the guides and displays are very informative. Compare the style and living conditions with the opulent New Town 1936 Georgian House.
