- Since opening in 1848, this traditional bookshop has remained one of Scotland's best and most popular. A favorite with students and academics, it has a comprehensive range of titles covering subjects far and wide - if they can't source what you're looking for then nobody can. If you need pens, paper and folders, they have a very good stationery department here. For travelers and walkers, the travel section has a great range of guides and maps. There is also a great second-hand section on the third floor. Check out the other James Thin branch in George Street, which has a charming cafe.
