Although you wouldn't visit Edinburgh for the beaches, there are still some nice spots. Portobello, which is 3 miles to the southeast of Leith. You can catch a bus there from Princes Street.
For others, you have to head out of the city. Visit North Berwick for Seacliff, a private beach with stunning views of Tantallon Castle. Also Gullane Bents and Yellowcraig in East Lothian.
