Bruntsfield Links Short Hole Golf Course is the oldest short hole golf course in the world! Indeed golf on this site probably predates the 17th century.

It's free to play and clubs can be rented at Ye Olde Golf Tavern, 30/31 Wrights Houses, Bruntsfield.

The course is a 36 hole pitch and putt. Facilities include the Short Hole Clubhouse (a small green hut). Best of all, it's free to play!

The rules of play include:

1) playing each hole from the tee areas
2) replacing any displaced turf (divots, not just your own, all over the course, particularly the tee areas.
3) repairing golf ball plugmarks on the putting greens.
4) keeping a watchful eye open for anyone: - a) causing willful damage to the course, b) damaging/stealing the flag pins, c) not playing in accordance with the Course Rules, e.g. playing over paths, and to politely advise them accordingly.

No person shall play the game of golf on any portion of Bruntsfield Links except that kind of part of the game known as the short or short hole game. No trip to Scotland would be complete without a stop at the magnificent Edinburgh Castle on Castle Rock. First erected in the 12th century, the fortress sits on top of an extinct volcano and is the most breathtaking part of the city's skyline. Within the castle walls you see impressive views of most of the New Town, including the Princes Street Gardens, Arthur's Seat and the Salisbury Crags, the famous Balmoral Hotel and more. You can also explore the various rooms, chapels and compartments of the fortress and through interactive displays discover what living and working there might have been like during the medieval era.

The highlight of any tour of the castle is the Honours of Scotland (the crown jewels), on display in the Crown Room of the castle's Royal Palace (built in 1617). These include the ancient crown, sword and scepter, which date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Here you can also see Scotland's most prized treasure: The Stone of Destiny, otherwise known as the Coronation Stone. Instead of constructing anew, the decision was finally taken to refurbish and revamp the old Empire Theatre, and in the summer of 1994 a new, glass-fronted Festival Theatre was opened.
