  • Cramond Village

    Cramond Village - Edinburgh

    Description:

This is a wee picturesque 18th-century village on the shores of the Firth of Forth - it is five miles north west of Edinburgh. Cramond sits on a slope at the mouth of the River Almond, tucked away in an idyllic sheltered inlet. Relax amidst the whitewashed houses, swans and handsome yachts. Visitors can unravel layers of local history by exploring a Roman fort and a medieval tower. Nose around the beach, which often yields Roman arrow heads, before being ferried in a tiny skiff across the river to the prettier beach beyond. Combine a visit to this serene spot with a trip to the Edwardian grandeur of Lauriston Castle. Free conducted walks around the village start from The Maltings, January-September on Sundays at 3pm.

    Description:

Spacious and comfy, this cafe exudes a relaxed ambience and is a popular place to sit and people-watch or dissect the themes of the last film you saw at the Filmhouse. Part of it is given over to a small photographic gallery, and on the second Sunday of every month there's a film-themed quiz to sort out the buffs from the buffoons. They serve great handmade cakes and a variety of fairly healthy meals such as baked potatoes, pasta dishes, vegan soups, sandwiches and salads, all at a reasonable price. There is a good selection of beverages, including a delicious hot chocolate, topped with cream and flakes, real ales and a selection of wines. Food is served midday-10pm daily.

    Description:

Camera Obscura is one of the oldest and most unique story telling centers in Edinburgh. Located inside a Victorian rooftop room, the 175-year-old visitor center employs old fashioned illusions and magic from mirrors and light to create a projection. This projection is live footage from somewhere in Edinburgh. The footage is beamed through a giant periscope onto a viewing table. Visitors are then encouraged to touch what they see and interact with a mini-scale Edinburgh. A marvellous and exciting take on sight-seeing.

Following a £1.2m project in 2010 (the visitor center's 175th anniversary year), Camera Obscura was expanded onto five floors. It now also features a c, and a room that distorts the images of those who enter into giants and dwarves.

    Description:

Cafe St Honore offers diners all the cheery and exciting elements of eating French. Thanks to a decor which recreates the look of a Parisian brasserie and food which exudes French chic, this place has retained a loyal following. If your conscience will give you a day off, indulge in a yummy, but waist-expanding dessert. The food is suitably French: rich and sumptuous, and good enough to appear in many a good food guide. The wine list is short, but closer inspection reveals many gems. By day this is a besuited, city establishment. By evening it's a romantic, candle-lit kind of place. The former incarnation is a smart place to impress or be impressed over a business lunch. The latter, using its tucked-away location to good effect, affords a quiet place to be with a loved one. Contrary to the Parisian theme, this is a no-smoking restaurant.

The Lyceum lies just around the corner, so many theater enthusiasts stop by. Guests are entertained by bands that play great pub music. All in all, its a great place to hang, especially for those who love the color blue!
