The Berlin Bierhaus's music policy concentrates on garage, house, soul, funk, drum and bass, as well as hip hop. On Thursdays, the Block Party crew spin some hip hop with drum and bass in two packed rooms. Fridays are dedicated to monthly club residencies, including Frisco Disco (soulful and funky west coast house) and Shift (hard house and trance). This studenty bar is situated at the base of Blair Street in the depths of the Cowgate. It is a sprawling space, full of sofas, benches and large tables for the punters to lounge around on. Before we get confused, let's get one thing straight - the word café is a complete misnomer. Café Graffiti is in fact an arts and live music venue. Theatre makes the odd appearance whilst world music is a frequent feature. Hogmanay and Christmas see special events and a regular Ceilidh slot. Bar Kohl was established in 1993 and claims to have been the Isle's first vodka bar. There are about 250 varieties of vodka to sample, including no less than 54 Finlandias flavours, including Strawberries and Cream, Cherry Pie and Highland Toffee. For those wanting to mix their tipples, there is a wide range of nips and a good selection of bottled beers. The decor is a minimalist mixture of wooden floorboards, long tables, church pews, steel chandeliers and the ubiquitous star logo.
