Be sure to bring plenty of water and an extra jacket on this rugged yet breathtaking hike. Keep an eye out for elk, mule deer, and goshawks.

Description:

Like the Kachina Trail, this high-altitude hike offers the most spectacular views and diversity of wildlife along the Inner Basin of "The Peaks." This trail, however, is much longer and more strenuous, meeting up with the Humphrey's Trail at the "saddle," (the saddle-shaped space between Agassiz and Humphrey's peak). Snowbowl Skyrides cruise up the Weatherford Peak. The Weatherford Trail is also a great place to hear the mating calls of elk in the fall, particularly in the morning or early evening (but don't get stuck on the trail in the dark!). Drive 2 miles north of Flagstaff on US 180 to FR 420 (Schultz Pass Road). Turn left at the intersection with FR 557. Continue on FR 420 for 6 miles to the trailhead located at Schultz Tank.
