Hotels in Florence are fabulously diverse. From the very expensive Hotel Savoy and Four Seasons Firenze to the economical Hotel Alba and Plus Hostel Florence. You can't go wrong in staying a bit outside the center as well. There are plenty of nice hotels that can accommodate to every type of traveler.
If you are a backpacker, hotels might not be your forte, check out Plus Hostel Florence which is located right near the SMN train station. It makes it very convenient to travel comfortably from your hostel to the station and to your hostel to the city center. Some of the more high class hotels that are listed as 5 stars are considered a 4 star in the States. Thus getting a better deal and also great hospitality as well. Many of the famous hotels along the Arno have housed many famous stars as well as been backdrops for movies as well. Hotel degli Orafi was where the cast and crew filmed A Room with a View starring Helen Bonham Carter and Maggie Smith.
Any of these hotels are easily accessible to the main attractions of the city. Nothing is out of reach. Being a small, walkable city, there will be no reason to grab a taxi to reach your hotel. A nice slow walk after dinner will be a great end of your evening while you gaze out of your fabulous hotel window. Whether you're looking for a romantic vibe, or want a place to mix and mingle with other travelers, Florence will have something for you. The city is rich with history, so whatever you choose, you are almost guaranteed to be close to something worth discovering.
