HI, to me the best way is to take a train to La Spezia, then from there you get the train that stop to every single village, you go all the way to Riomaggiore, then you walk on the "via dell'amore" (very easy path, just 20 minutes walking) to Manarola, then from there you can get a boat ride to Vernazza and Monterosso. The boat does not stop in Corniglia, so you can go there by train from Monterosso. Trains ride very often from village to village. Contact me if you need more infos. I am sure in your hotel in Florence they will have a train schedule updated to spring 2011. Have fun! CIao!

if you want to go for one day starting in the morning and come back in the evening I think the best way is the car. Take the autoroute for Lucca and than follow the direction for Genova. when you arrive in riomaggiore you can stop the car and visit the 5 terre by feet (the famous via dell'amore) and/or by boat (but I don't know if in april the boat works) Enjoy yourself!!!

Who wants to visit the Cinque Terre, it is better to forget the car. The way to reach them is long and very tortous. It is better to reach by car or by train from Florence to La Spezia, Levanto or Bonassola and then to continue by train or by bus. Who goes by car along the Genova-Livorno motorway is able to exit at Brugnato Borghetto to Cinque Terre and Portovenere or at La Spezia or at Sarzana too. Then you are able to use the railway line Genova-Livorno since, especially during the turistic season, there are a lot of trains stopping at all the villages of the Cinque Terre.
