Day 1 - Rome, Florence

Morning: Start off on Via Cola di Rienzo in Prati. The entire street boasts European retail stores mixed in with some luxury shops. Wander to neighboring streets for smaller shops. Stop for a classic cappuccino and cornetto breakfast (just make sure your cappuccino is ordered before noon if you want to blend in with Italians!). Afternoon: After you’ve exhausted the Prati district, head over to Via del Corso, the most congested—but not to be missed—shopping street in Rome. The entire avenue from Piazza Venezia to Piazza del Popolo is populated with shops of all levels, from smaller shops to larger retail stores. About halfway between the two piazzas, wander over to Fontana di Trevi where you can make a wish in the fountain to find the perfect pair of Italian designer shoes. Then head to Piazza di Spagna to find those shoes in one of the city’s most upscale shops. Rest your newly Prada-clad feet over lunch at trendy GiNa. Late Afternoon/Evening: Via Appia Nuova, starting near the Basilica San Giovanni, is the local solution to shopping. With fewer tourists and a wide variety of shops, from many chic boutiques to some larger stores, the street is often comfortably crowded on both sides. Start out at the San Giovanni Coin store and just keep following Via Appia. The shopping selection continues for kilometers. On the way, refresh yourself with an ice cream at “Procopio,” arguably the best gelateria in Rome, or at “Pompi,” the ever popular café renowned for their specialty Tiramisu, both near Piazza Re di Roma. Otherwise, you could stop for a warm drink or refreshing concoction at Bibelot further down Via Appia. Head back to the center for dinner at Minerva Roof Restaurant, followed by drinks at Gusto.
