  • Last season's brand-new hotel may not be where you want to stay this year, and an undiscovered inn might be the emerging hotspot to mix it up a bit. It can be hard to keep up with the changes in {0} lodging, and most folks come back again to experience a different region of the Keys, so be sure to check out these updated hotels. You'll find current information, added amenities, "green travel" features and up-to-date accommodations-making it that much easier to enjoy your stay, and plan for repeat visits every year.

Islamorada's Cheeca Lodge and Spa has not only reinterpreted the resort's more than 60-year old traditions into a green resort, but has equipped the new 5,700-square-foot spa with organic sustainable luxury. New treatments at the Spa at Cheeca use the purest and highest quality of sophisticated beauty products available from sustainable farms and fair trade sources, including the world's first range of certified organic, hand-harvested seaweed based products, luxurious organic vegan products for body, feet, hands and nails; a holistic botanical skincare line, and the first mineral-based, allergen-free cosmetic collection originally designed for post-cosmetic surgery. To promote healing of the mind, body and spirit guests can enjoy custom organic facials, revitalizing massage and body treatments and Calusa Healing, among other techniques that combine neuromuscular, myofacial, Thai and sports massage techniques. Poolside cabanas, a Tahitian-style Spa Lagoon, an adults-only lap pool and secluded oasis Jacuzzi, as well as an outdoor sundeck provide a perfect setting for post-treatment lounging.

Or, the Islander Resort's private concession, Islander Watersports, is catering to a growing sailing niche, as aficionados now have an opportunity for sunset sails, snorkel cruises and private charters aboard Islamorada's only sailing catamaran, the Horizon Cat.

Now a member of the Keys Caribbean family of vacation resorts, the Historic Tavernier Hotel recently renovated its 17 intimate rooms - all outfitted with flat-screen TVs, WiFi in each room and phones with free local and long distance calls. The homey, pet-friendly resort is a member of the environmentally focused Green Lodging program of Florida.

Family's four-legged friends can join overnight travelers to Key Largo when they stay at Amy Slate's Amoray Dive Resort in Key Largo.

"If you're a pet owner, you know how difficult it can be to travel. No one wants to leave a beloved companion behind," said Slate, a dog lover herself.

A maximum of two pets are allowed per room, and a $50 pet fee applies. Owners must supply a dog bed, and leashes are required on property. A map with dog-walking areas around the resort is provided to guests upon arrival.
