Description:

In operation more than 20 years, Old Tavernier is still a surprising secret in the Keys. Located at mile marker 90.3, along the Old Highway.

Fresh local seafood and prime steaks are ideal menu items, but entree menus round with other veal, chicken and pasta selections. Even lamb and Greek specialties are sure to catch the landlubber's eye.

Entrees range from $12-50 per person depending on selection, and with wine and appetizers a couple may be in for a buck-fifty for dinner. It's worth the splurge, though.

I like to make my final recommendation based on an establishment's wine list, and the Old Tavernier has taken some pains to make some good choices. It's not often you see Montrachet on the wine list (in the Keys)!   Although a majority are California, it is refreshing to see Pinot Noirs and Red Zinfandel (Toasted Head) offered. Most restaurants don't go past the big Cabs or Merlot, and wonder why their wines don't appeal to diners.

Old Tavernier lives up to its classy reputation with food, staff and the dining experience ... not just 'eating out.'
