Description:

  • Along the south shore of the Caloosahatchee River, in Fort Myers, the unforgettable American inventor, Thomas Alva  Edison, spent his winters working in his lab and enjoying the company of his next door neighbor, Henry Ford.  Sit on a bench under a towering banyan tree -- the largest banyan in North American -- and sip a cool soda or nibble on ice cream. The once tiny tree was a gift from Harvey Firestone. It is located beside Edison's well preserved laboratory and a museum that enlightens visitors about Edison's life and inventions. The guided tours of his estate are a hit with visitors of all ages. It is worth dedicating a good chunk of your day to your visit.
