Museum für Angewandte Kunst

Description:

  • More than 30,000 objects from across Europe and Asia are exhibited here. Two buildings house the collection: a 19th-century villa and a 1985 structure designed by New York architect Richard Meier. The museum has an outstanding collection of German rococo furnishings (called Mainzer Meistermobel) created in Mainz. The glassware is a highlight, with some Venetian pieces from the 15th century. On the second floor, the Far East and Islamic department has a rich collection of Persian carpets and faience dating from the 9th century. One of Germany's finest porcelain collections is here as well.
