Historical Society of Frederick County

Description:

  • Nobody famous lived here, the guides at this 1820s Federal-style house will tell you. But, at various times, it was home to a doctor and his family; it witnessed the Civil War, with Union and Confederate troops passing through the streets just outside; and more than 100 orphaned girls called it home. Look for portraits of Roger B. Taney, chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and author of the Dred Scott decision, and Francis Scott Key, author of "The Star-Spangled Banner." There's also a library and a formal garden.
