Geneva is world famous for its ultra-luxurious palace hotels, most from the Belle Epoque period of the 19th century. They have perfected service levels and magnificent facilities to accommodate royalty, heads of states, diplomats and celebrities. Most of the luxury hotels are within steps of each other in the center of Geneva near the lake and Jardin Anglais, with spectacular views from the hotels.
Since my arrival in Geneva, I have always enjoyed being in the icon Le Richemond hotel, now a Rocco Forte hotel which offers the ultimate in European elegance and prestige yet still intimate and personal. Other opulent palaces are the Beau Rivage with its high tech touches, the Mandarin Oriental du Rhône with views on the river, the D'Angleterre Geneva right on the lake shore and the Hôtel de la Paix with fabulous views of Mont Blanc. A landmark and the first hotel to be built in Geneva in 1834 is the sumptuous Four Seasons Des Bergues.
Just a short walk down to the Quai Wilson from the other palace hotels and the train station is the Hôtel Président Wilson with amazing views and an excellent spa.
Two more luxury hotels that are large and modern are the Grand Hotel Kempinski Geneva right on the lake and the Hôtel Intercontinental Genève which is located a little ways back into the city.
For a luxurious stay that is in a quiet area but still convenient and on the lake shore that I also recommend is La Réserve. This is a special treat with expert wellness and spa facilities as well as gorgeous view of Lac Leman and Alps.
