Since Geneva is a compact medieval city, wherever you stay, these Top 10 picks will be convenient to anything that you would like to do or see. In a very small space there are some of the world's most luxurious hotels in the world with long lists of monarchs, heads of state and celebrities who have been guests here. Awe is the first reaction to entering Le Richemond to which now Sir Rocco Forte has added his touch for the ultra-luxury experience nowhere else to be found. Today many of the formerly independent palace hotels are in partnership with well-known luxurious brands including the Hotel du Rhone, now a Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Other opulent palaces that would satisfy sybaritic international guests are the Beau Rivage, Hotel President Wilson and the Hotel d'Angleterre Geneva Hotel. Perhaps the most ostentatiously elegant hotel in the city is the Hotel des Bergues now managed by Four Seasons.
However, not all Top 10 picks are in this ultra-luxurious category and there are more modest and appealing lodging options as well as a few trendier boutique hotels to satisfy everyone. For a Swiss style hotel, there is Hôtel Edelweiss Manotel which although modern from the outside, is very rustic and cozy inside. Another Swiss classical pick is the lovely little Hôtel Hermitage.
One of the trendier hotels in Geneva is the Eastwest, an interesting fusion for the hip set. Another Top pick is definitely different than the others, La Coudre Bed & Breakfast, a 19th c charming family home just outside of the city with easy access.
