Description:
- Located above Staniel Cay at the northern end of the Exuma chain, this ecological preserve and wildlife refuge encompasses 176 square miles of land and sea. The seemingly endless string of uninhabited cays is only accessible via boat. On land you can explore the ruins of 18th-century Loyalist settlements on Hawksbill and Warderick Cays, and you may catch a glimpse of the endangered Bahamian Iguana. The underwater landscape is equally intriguing. Reefs, caves, extraordinary limestone and coral formations, and scores of marine animals make any diving or snorkeling trip an interesting one. Park visitors must adhere to a list of strict regulations, which prohibit fishing and removing objects from the reserve. A complete list is available from the Exuma Tourist Office. Consult the tourist office for a selection of guides that conduct trips to the park.
