Description:

  • This is one of the Mediterranean's most famous hotels and clearly the best in Gibraltar. This long-enduring favorite is set in a beautiful 3.6-hectare (9-acre) landscaped garden on the Rock's sunny western side with views of the Spanish coastline and North Africa. It's the place for the British traditionalist dreaming of lost colonial empires. There are nature walks through the geranium-bright gardens, as well as a wisteria-covered terrace for a sundowner. Built by the marquis of Bute in 1932, the hotel offers spacious and attractively refurbished bedrooms in the colonial style. From some balconies you can see the Rif Mountains in Morocco. Rooms have more amenities than any hotel on the Rock, including bathrobes and the like. The use of bamboo and ceiling fans add to the Casablanca-like atmosphere.
