Glasgow City Free Church - Glasgow
  • Type: Religious Sights
  • NileGuide Expert tip:

If you would like a tour of the building you can send an email detailing the date of visit and the size of the group.

  • Description:

    • The church was designed by one of Glasgow's most famous architects, Alexander Thomson and was opened as a United Presbyterian Church in 1859. Thomson gained much of his inspiration from the classical architecture of Ancient Greece. The building is probably viewed to best advantage from the south.
The use of space and light inside is wonderful. As you enter the building the passages are narrow but once in the main area inside, the light bursts through the auditorium and over the pulpit. In addition to the large auditorium which can seat 1,100, the building has a series of halls and rooms of various sizes.
