This hotel should be better known, but instead it's one of the relatively unknown gems of Gothenburg. We've anxiously watched its prices rise -- it used to be featured in budget guides -- but it still offers decent value in spite of inflation. Well run and family managed, it is housed in a building from Gothenburg's Belle Epoque days, meaning around the turn of the 20th century. Originally it was a many-balconied apartment house, until its owners decided to convert it into a good hotel in the 1980s. There's a residents' pub and cocktail lounge near the lobby, but the only meal served is breakfast.
