Once the home of a wealthy colonial family, this restored colonial house from the 1840s has quickly become one of the best museums in western Honduras outside of Copán. Colonial artifacts, models of villages, old photographs, murals, and pre-Columbian tools are paired with a brilliant folk-art collection of masks and other items created by the regions indigenous cultures. There are rotating art exhibitions as well, mostly from unknown regional artists. In the rear of the building is a botanical garden. The collection of plants here, originally begun by the Galeanos, is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Central America. It's quite small, but the assortment of native species is good.
