  • Spain is a mecca for wine aficionados, and Granada has a wealth of bars and restaurants with impressive wine lists. Lucky for you, Granada also has among the best tapas restaurants and, for the most part, retains the tradition of giving out a free tapa with drinks. The restaurants on our top ten list are characterized by elegant dining rooms, antique wooden bars, and charming outdoor terraces.

In addition to being known for its wine, Spain also has a number of fine cheeses that can perfectly compliment that glass of Rioja, Crianza, sherry, or port. Jamón serrano (cured Spanish ham), fondue, and some of the best olives you've ever had will further satisfy your palate.

Our top choice, Bodegas Castañeda, is a classy tavern that has a large selection of wines in addition to its notable vermouth and sangria, and we recommend ordering the cheese platter. El Carmen de San Miguel enjoys privileged views of the city from its rooftop terrace-a nice place to relax and get some sun on a warm afternoon.

La Colina de Almanzora has vintage wines and serves typical Andalusian cuisine in a comfortable, modern setting. Our number four choice is one of the most well-known restaurants in Granada, and has been frequented by a number of celebrities, which, in addition to its exquisite food and vast wine selection, certainly hasn't hurt its reputation.

Real Asador de Castilla, our number eight choice, is different from the rest in that it specializes in barbecue. If this makes you feel a little hesitant about how it compares with the others, think no more. The wooden bar, warm dining room, and creative menu make this a great choice for anyone looking to try something new.

We have a soft spot for our number ten choice, Casa Enrique, which is a bit of a dive bar-somewhere you might normally pass up. But sometimes the best things are the ones that have a history, and this old tavern has an impressive wine selection in addition to its tasty tapas.
