This is, without question, one of the world's most scenic restaurants. Long banks of west- and south-facing windows look out on Transept Canyon and help warm this dining room. The high, open-framed ceiling absorbs guests' clamor.
For being in a park lodge, this restaurant offers a remarkably creative menu, which incorporates sustainable agricultural products. At dinner, consider starting with crab cakes or the chicken and feta salad. Pasta lovers will enjoy the North Rim Pasta -- organic, whole-wheat penne with green peas, crisp bacon, and toasted pine nuts in a creamy sauce. Among the extensive meat options are buffalo steak, prime rib, flatiron steak, and free-range meatloaf made of beef.
The lunch menu consists mostly of burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The best choice is probably the turkey Reuben, served with fries or pasta salad. At breakfast, a full buffet costs less than $11.
Note there are only nine window-adjacent tables, which cannot be reserved. Though you can opt to wait (likely for an hour or more), you will still not be guaranteed a window seat. However, you can see through the windows from any part of the dining room, and are always welcome to walk up to them for a closer view.
