Day Note:

Since you will have made reservations for a mule trip at Xanterra Parks & Resorts, (303) 297-2757 or toll free (888) 297-2757, or FAX (303) 297-3175, most of your work is taken care of. Description:

The awesome, dramatic visual of the Grand Canyon has inspired more than one writer to liken the majestic canyon to an abyss. It is no wonder why one observation point along the West Rim Drive earned the name The Abyss. From this point, it is a dramatic 3,000-foot drop off that plunges to the plateau below. Access to this point is via the trail system linking the outlooks along West Rim Drive and by shuttle in the summer months.

    Description:

This eatery is a refueling spot for the truly adventurous diner: you have to make the descent to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to eat here! The house specialty is hiker's stew, but the establishment also offers full American-style breakfasts, sack lunches and steak dinners. Vegetarian options are available by advance reservation. It is essential that you reserve your meals before you make your Grand Canyon descent.

    Author note:

Dinner is included in the mule trip package and you will get surprisingly luxurious food and service on the canyon floor. Lodging will be provided here as well.

Day Note:

After you're ride up, you'll be sadly departing the Grand Canyon National Park. But ease the separation by heading down to Williams for a cowboy meal and a good night's rest at a local bed and breakfast.
