Altsteirische Schmankerlstube

Description:

  • The most authentic recipes of the Styrian kitchen are served here, the cuisine often compared to "granny's home cooking." The stube is the local favorite, using local products of good quality for classic meals. Theresia Oberländer and her daughters launched this restaurant in 1995, dedicating it to the serving of traditional family-style meals in a friendly, inviting atmosphere. Their salads are the best in town, perhaps because they use a local pumpkin seed oil, which comes from a nearby mill at Leitinger where the Oberländer family was born. Their organic juices are also from a local farmer. The chef's specialty is Rinderschulterscherzl, boiled beef served with a pumpkin purée. Desserts are made fresh daily and are among the richest and best tasting in town.

    Two strikes, you're out

  • I was very excited about dining at Altsteirische Schmankerlstube, as I had read great reviews and even e-mailed the restaurant from the U.S. prior to our trip. We arrived on Christmas...

Nice, typical, nothing to complain about

  • I had deer goulasch and a good wine from Burgenland region. It was overall OK, but not that I'd absolutely will go back. Price/Quality relation was OK, so no laurels and no complains....
