George Washington High School (GWHS)

• One of the prominent high schools in the country, the George Washington High School, or GWHS, was established at this location at Mangilao in 1965. Though the original school had been opened as early as 1936, in San Nicolas, Agana, the school experienced some trying times, including the devastating Typhoon Karen that destroyed much of its infrastructure, and the school saw several relocations, till it finally found a home in Mangilao. The goal of the school is to sculpt 'productive' community members, and it does this by adopting the six-word program of 'GECKOS' - Goal oriented individuals, Effective communicators, Critical thinkers, Keen on technology, Outstanding community members, Self- directed learners who value education.
