The Question
Public Question Asked by robika83 about Guilin
Is it worth visiting Guilin around Xmas?
Hi All, I'm Robert from Hong Kong, and we are planning to go to China during the holidays with my girlfriend. We have to go to Hangzhou as well, my question is , is it worth to visit Guilin this time of the year? I have heard there are some hot springs around. Also, do you know if the connection between Hangzhou and Guilin is good? Any advise or recommendation would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance and Merry Xmas! Robert

Hi,
I would recommend Guilin in spring time instead. It can get pretty cold at this time. I .never heard of any hot springs there. Communications are ok, there are direct flights between Guilin and Hangzhou.
Take a good hotel with a good spa in Hangzhou or Shanghai for the holiday instead.
Merry Christmas.

Guilin is absolute worth a visit, the only problem is the time you mentioned. It would be rather cold in Xmas in Guilin, especially if you want to take the cruise on Lijiang, which is the most beautiful part of Guilin. So strongly recommend you visit Guilin next time.
If you would be in Hangzhou, you can go to visit the small towns on river near Hangzhou, which in Chinease we call them Shuixiang (Village on water).
Or you can try the corridor bridges in the southeast part of Zhejiang Province (http://www.alpstyletravel.com/DomesticItineraryList.aspx?id=8).
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

It is not very worth to visit Guilin now, because it is a bit cold, and Longji Terrace that is about 100km to Guilin is not green, the best visiting time should be in spring and summer. and i have not heard there are hot springs. there are direct flights from Hangzhou to Guilin, maybe the flights from Shanghai to Guilin is cheaper, you could check some infor on website.

yea but there will not be much celebrating on xmas there. But the scenery and the hotspring..everything is fantastic, thats a city you can go to anytime of the year and you will have different feelings each time.Hangzhou is also a very good city, but I am afraid the transpotation will be a little busy during xmas.so be sure you get everything arranged before you go. you can take a train to go there too. i am sure you will never forget the trip on the train.haha.

Guilin is nice and absolute worth a visit. But as for Christmas, the holiday spirit is just not there yet. For Hangzhou & Shanghai, yes, it has more commercial side to this holiday season. Many types of connection from Hangzhou to Guilin, trains, bus, airplane. but all of them takes time which you might lost a day or half. If you are into nature scenery, why not give a shot to Guilin. Hangzhou is in between nature scenery and city. Shanghai will be totally a metropolitan tour which is fun also, close to Hangzhou.
Merry Christmas!

I am pretty clear with the geographic locations and I have time as well, no worries ;) Sorry if it was not clear for you, the question was if it is worth to consider visiting Guilin as well if I have to go to Hangzhou, or simply let Guilin for another time. As for your answer, I appreciate your effort but there was no value added worth your time spending on typing it.
