Getting There

At the time of writing, the only way for foreigners to get to Gyantse was in a private vehicle with a guide. The journey from Lhasa takes about 6 hours; from Shigatse, the journey is 2 hours.

Fast Facts

Banks, Foreign Exchange and ATMs -- None available.

Internet Access -- The fastest connection is at the Dashijie Wangba (tel. 0892/898-2258). Located next to the Gyantse Hotel, they're open from 9:30am to midnight and charge ¥5 (65¢/35p) per hour. Dial-up is tel. 165.

Post Office -- The main post office (open 9am-12:30pm and 3:30-7pm) is a few minutes' walk east of the main intersection on the corner of Weiguo Lu and Jianghong Lu.

Visitor Information -- The tourism bureau's complaint number is tel. 0892/899-6667 or 1390/892-2542.
