Description:

  • This pond was created during the Shilla Dynasty and was within the walls of the royal palace. A 1974 excavation revealed three underwater mounds, indicating that the pond had had artificial islands within it. At the same time, the pond draining revealed several artifacts, including gold and bronze bowls, gilt ornaments, various jewelry, door knockers, and mirrors, which are now on display in the Gyeongju National Museum. The stately but diminutive Imhae Jeonji, the crown prince's palace, was historically the most important building on the property and has been restored along with other structures, while other building sites have been left in unrestored.
