Bunhwangsa (Bunhwang Temple)

Description:

  • One of the most important temples during the Shilla Dynasty, it was established by Queen Seon-Deok during her reign (A.D. 632-637). A haven for artists and monks, many Buddhist paintings and sculptures were created here. Unfortunately, most of them were destroyed during the Imjin Waeran (1592-1598). Although Bunhwangsa is only a shadow of its former self, it is still famous for its Mojeon Stone Pagoda, which has only three of its original nine stories still intact.
