Gyeongju National Museum

Description:

  • Outside of Seoul, this museum has the largest collection of Shilla Dynasty relics in South Korea (and the world, for that matter). Of over 100,000 pieces in its possession, only about 3,000 artifacts are on view, but the displays are well lit and presented in four exhibit halls. Still, the explanatory text could use some punching up. Highlights include the gold crowns and other treasures excavated from nearby tombs and King Seong-deok's famous bell. Buddhist sculptures make up a majority of the stone pieces in the collection.
