Poseokjeong Pavilion

Description:

• Poseokjeong, which loosely translated means "where rocks are placed in the shape of an abalone," was given its name because the shape of the rock grooves here look like an abalone shell. Originally the site of a royal Shilla villa, all that remains today is a stone waterway. It was said that the Shilla kings came here with their nobles and officials. They would place their wine glasses in the water and recite a poem before their glasses floated to the top. This is also the site where Shilla King Gyeong-ae was attacked by Gyeonhwon of the Later Baekje (HuBaekje) Kingdom. It is said that Gyeong-ae killed himself rather than surrender, and thus the pavilion is the symbol of the fall of the Shilla Dynasty.
