Description:
Eastern Canada's pioneer brewpub -- this was the first -- is housed in an austere building far down Barrington Street. The starkly handsome 1834 stone building has a medium-fancy dining room upstairs with red tablecloths and captains' chairs. (The pub downstairs is more boisterous and informal.) You can order off the same menu at either spot, and it's what you'd expect at a brewpub, only better-tasting: Entrees include beer-battered fish, steak sandwiches, an excellent smoked-salmon club sandwich, burgers, beef-and-beer stew, salads, and meatloaf. The beer here is fresh and good; they also do Sunday brunches.

Warm and comfortable

Settling into a English Style Pub on a rainy night can't get any better. Food, service and atmosphere was just what we needed after a long day of travelling.
