- ...visit the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte, whose extensive collection ranges from artifacts dating from the city's foundation in the Middle Ages to visions of the future, with main subjects such as harbour, transport and trade being covered extensively, as well as numerous interesting sections dealing with the constitutional, cultural and social history of the city. The Great Fire of 1842 is documented in an informative and evocative way, as is the virtual ruin of the city during the two world wars. There are numerous models of Hamburg, with its churches, railways and ships. While the ground floor of the museum covers music, art, theater and society, the first and second floors display relics and documents outling its renaissance connections, its tranformation into an urban center, the influx of Jews and the foundation of its railway network. The life-size model of the steamer on the second floor is a must see and a popular attraction.
