- Around 24 miles from the city center, the Nature park around Steinhuder sea is a popular picnic spot. Steinhuder is West Germany's largest inland sea. 65 percent of the park is a nature reserve. But the lush green surroundings are a favorite destination for locals and highly recommended for visitors. Most of the holidaying crowd is concentrated on the shores. Those keen on watching wildlife can check out the rare species of birds and animals inhabiting the nature reserve. Biking tours, boating, water sports and bus tours throughout the park are arranged for by the Steinhuder Infocenter.
