Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta

Description:

  • This small fortress, found at the western entry point to the harbor, played a crucial role in the defense of Havana during the early colonial period. Built in the 16th century, the four-sided construction gives visitors heading into the old city quarter, an idea of the architecture that characterizes this part of town. The fortress, which still houses a score of old artillery pieces and other relics of the past, has now been completely restored, including the original moat.
