• Owner Brian Crawford and his wife, Lisha, may be the Conrad Hiltons of Volcano. Theirs was the first small property to get the prestigious Triple Diamond Award from AAA. From the personal service at check-in to the afternoon tea to the rich two-course breakfast served on the finest china and linens, this place is worth the price (though it may be a bit formal for some). Nestled in the forest just a mile from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the inn features two rooms, three suites, and an elegant separate mountain cottage. These fabulous units are filled with art and furniture the Crawfords have collected during their travels. Most rooms have private hot tubs, but there's also a giant hot tub on the grounds.

  In addition to this boutique inn, Brian and Lisha Crawford own and manage four other inns and lodges, plus five vacation homes; prices start at $125 for a two-bedroom cottage. The homes are spacious and nicely furnished, and all have private phones, TVs, VCRs, and full kitchens.
