Black Sand Beach on the Big Island

Description:

  • There is nothing more intriguing than a visit to the Richardson Black Sand Beach when you come to the Big Island. Be captivated by the breathtaking views, waterfalls and gentle sea turtles who feed only a few feet from the shore. This fun-filled tour is another great way to get the whole family involved. For a memorable day out on the Big Island, you simply must visit Black Sand Beach!

Your day will start in Hilo at the beautiful Japanese Gardens named after Queen Lili'uokalani. Here you can enjoy a stunning view of Mauna Kea, one of the worlds tallest mountains and an inactive volcano. Look out at the gorgeous Hamakua Coast, where in the winter months it is not uncommon to see humpwhales in the bay.

Your next stop is the fabulous Rainbow Falls whose 89 foot (27 meter) high cascade hides a sacred cave. Just above Rainbow Falls, you can explore a beautiful banyan tree that always leaves her guests in awe and a lagoon that has become a very popular attraction. After your visit to the statue of King Kamehameha, you'll take a stroll through the gorgeous Panaewa Rainforest Zoo, a treat in itself!

No trip to Hawaii would be complete without a visit to Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory, where you'll have the opportunity to sample the island's delicacies. Then proceed to Richardson Black Sand Beach where the scenery is sure to delight you.

Make sure you keep a watchful eye out for the local sea turtles, who feed only a few feet from the shore. (Although the tour cannot make any guarantees, they are in abundance during the winter months).
