- Included in the landscape of Kalopa State Recreation Area is a native ohia forest, at an elevation of 2,000 feet, and a wide variety of other native plants. The park includes a short nature trail and connecting trails to the adjacent forest preserve, including a two-mile horse loop trail.
Kalopa is located on the northwestern side of the Big Island. The site is three miles inland from Mamalahoa Highway, approximately five miles southeast of Honoka'a.
