Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area

Description:

• The Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area contains a lava rock-covered beach area with picnic facilities, showers and restrooms. A special events pavilion is available for rental. The lava limits water access to a few breaks in the rock, but the park is excellent for shore fishing and tide pool exploration. Tennis courts, a soccer field and ball field are maintained on the property.

  This site is a good place for tide pool exploration, shore fishing and picnicking. The northern portion of the park has water access for snorkeling, scuba diving and surfing.

  This park is located north of Kailua-Kona on the leeward shore of Hawaii. It can be accessed from the end of Kuakini Highway.
