Pacific Tsunami Museum - Big Island (Hawaii)

  • Description:

    • Tsunamis are to Hawaii as earthquakes are to San Francisco. They are much-publicized and widely feared, but few people know facts about them. This museum aims to educate locals and tourists through a variety of exhibits and programs. Photos, transcribed oral histories, models and many other kinds of exhibits are onsite. Essay and poster contests, newsletters and tsunami anniversaries help to alert people to the museum's existence. This museum also serves as a memorial to the people killed in tsunamis of the past. Admission required.
