• Type: Caves
  • NileGuide Expert tip:

Lots of water and safe shoes.

  • Description:

    • For a natural alternative to a hotel sauna, check out the Puna steam vents outside of Pahoa town. The vents radiate hot steam that visitors can sit near and enjoy surrounded by lava rock and native ohia trees. Headed down Highway 130, after the top of Kamaili Road is a pull off area along the highway. Here is the trail head down to the vents and it's easily visible.

Bring a lot of water, and wear good shoes for walking over rough and loose lava rock. The vents are easily visible and can be enjoyed usually with only one or two other people there max. When you're ready to move on, head down the road for more enjoyment along the coast.
