Description:
- This 8.4 mile moderate difficulty trail is a dirt and gravel road that goes uphill west of Ahumoa to the old Puu Laau Ranger cabin, passing through open Mamane/Naio/Iliahi native dryland forest. Common native forest birds may be sighted in the vicinity of the road. The route also traverses critical habitat of the endangered Palila, a Hawaiian finch found only on the upper slopes of Mauna Kea. Wear bright colored clothing as the road passes through areas for year-round archery hunting for game mammals and seasonal shooting of game birds.
This road begins at the Kilohana Hunter Check Station near the 44.0 mile marker on the Saddle Road (Hwy 200)
