Statue of King Kamehameha the Great

Description:

  • Certainly one of the more interesting landmarks in the area, the King Kamehameha Statue in Kapaau is the original of what is now several statues, including the one that is in statuary hall in the Capitol building in Washington, DC. This particular statue was designed in Florence, cast in Paris, lost at sea, reappeared at Port Stanley in the Falklands and returned to Hawaii. Since insurance paid for a replacement of the thought-to-be-lost statue, the replacement is located on Oahu and stands proudly in front of Aliiolani Hale. - Lottie Tagupa
