  • This boutique hotel is the only designer inn in town to surpass Arthotel in modern flair. Both attract a similar clientele of fashionistas to their elegant, sophisticated precincts. Hip, incidentally, means "Hyper Individual Place" in this context. The little hotel is part of the historic inn, Zum Güldenen Schaf, which for decades has been operated by the welcoming Kischka family, who are known for their historic menus and theme evenings.

    The hotel is installed in this 250-year-old building, but don't expect antique, creaky rooms. Everything is fresh and contemporary -- Claudia and Karim Kischka traveled the world picking up furnishings and accessories for the bedrooms. Each room is also individually designed and named for some of the most famous cities in the world, including New York, Tokyo, Marrakesh, and Amsterdam. If you're a little commie-oriented, you can opt for the Havanna Room, where a huge blow-up of Che Guevara will "guard" the activities in your bed at night. There's even a room with beamed ceilings inspired by the city of Heidelberg itself.
