• Any true Heidelberger will spend a good portion of their summer basking in the sun, playing Frisbee or volleyball with friends, or grilling out on the beloved Neckarweise, a bustling sun-ridden park that sits on the river Neckar with views of the Old City (Altstadt(), castle and all. To get there, simply walk or ride your bike across the Theodor Heuss Bridge (Theodor-Heuss Brücke) from Bismarckplatz. Once you've reached the other side, you may want to first stop at Capri Ice Cream Shop (Brückenstraße 19) before settling down for a lazy afternoon lying in sun, people-watching, or even paddle-boating. Boats are available for rent on the right side of the bridge (when coming from Bismarckplatz), but we suggest taking a stroll starting on your left-hand side, where you are sure to find a perfect spot, be it in the shade or the sun.
