Description:
If you have time for just one place to sample a classic Finnish cuisine, make it this historic dining room which has been dispensing honest food since 1952. It still has its original stained-glass windows and light fixtures. Locally it's celebrated for its traditional meatballs and fried Baltic herring. Many renowned Finnish artisans supplied the decorations, but they are a mere backdrop for the hearty cuisine. Start with that old-time favorite, salmon soup with toasted dark bread, following with reindeer stew with lingonberries, or the classic Finnish hash of potatoes, smoked ham, onions, and fried eggs. Duck breast comes with a ginger sauce and lamb stew with sun-dried tomatoes and olives. Finish with blueberry pie and old-fashioned vanilla ice cream.
