Description:

  • Alppipuisto is one of the many well-maintained parks open to the public in Helsinki. It was originally built in 1840s by a local tycoon and is nowadays a laid-back living room for the local citizens and other sunbathers. The park has many plants that are rare in Finland, such as the cherry trees donated by the Japanese citizens of Helsinki. Alppipuisto is located right next to the Linnanmäki amusement park and provides an excellent place to enjoy one's own picnic lunch between the funfair rides. In the summer weekends, there are often free concerts, festivals and other art happenings in Alppipuisto. - Kati Hurme
