NileGuide Expert tip:

Loews Lake Las Vegas is a kid-friendly, pet-friendly desert escape, far from the Strip.

Description:

Twenty miles from the Las Vegas Strip, the Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort sits next to a private lake. Loews offers guests a desert escape away from the neon of the Strip. You'll find incredible golf courses, the small village of Lake Las Vegas, and miles of desert. Lake Mead National Recreation Area is minutes from Loews, putting guests right on the doorstep of the immense man-made desert lake.

The resort has 493 rooms, making it smaller than its Strip counterparts. The rooms are well-appointed, including all the standard amenities travelers expect in resorts: for example, quality linens, flat-screen TVs, and 24-hour room service. Forty-six suites are also available at the resort. Loews has two pools, a fitness center, a full spa, and a selection of on-site restaurants and a lounge. The resort is also child- and pet-friendly, with extensive services for kids and critters.

Although Loews does not have a casino, you can take a shuttle to the Strip. This is definitely not the usual Las Vegas resort, so if you're looking for lots of neon and showgirls and crowds, you'll be disappointed. If you're seeking a retreat or escape experience, however, this may be the place for you. It's a popular destination for weddings, in no small part because of its scenic background--and what newlywed couple wants a crowd?

At Loews, you can explore the private lake with a kayak, canoe, or boat. The Lake Las Vegas village also offers shopping, restaurants, and golf courses. The community isn't as large as originally planned, which means it can feel a little deserted at times. Businesses here are adapting to a harsher economy than they originally anticipated, which sadly means some places have scaled back or even closed their doors. But if you're looking for quiet and serenity, the lightly-inhabited Lake Las Vegas may feel refreshing.

Loews Lake Las Vegas has a lounge, Arabesque, and the property offers two restaurants and two pool-side cafes. The resort also has a large convention area and a wedding chapel. Loews does charge a resort fee for incidentals like internet usage and parking, which adds a little over $20 per day to the room rate.
